Green Tea
According to a recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (1999;70:1040-1045), Green Tea could be a safe and useful tool for weight loss.

Researchers in Switzerland performed metabolic tests to compare the energy expenditure of men who took Green Tea extract vs men who took placebo or just caffeine. The study found that men who took the Green Tea extract had a significant increase in energy expenditure. The increase in metabolism occurred without causing a rise in the heart rate. This makes it a much safer alternative to ephedra which is the active ingredient in many of the over the counter weight loss products.

In addition to the possible benefits in weight loss, Green Tea is a very potent antioxidant. Antioxidants may help prevent many forms of cancer.

In order to get the most benefit out of Green Tea, you should drink at least 4 cups a day. Decaffinated tea is probably just as effective. Drink the tea straight. Drink it hot or cold. You should not add sugar to your Green Tea.

For the best quality Green Tea, try a specialty tea store. Green tea can also be found in most supermarkets.
